7 Day Laos Itinerary

  • Welcome to Thailand! On arrival at Bangkok Airport you will be met inside Immigration by our representative holding a sign with your name. Assistance will be provided with carry on luggage and you will be guided through the exclusive fast track counters to make entry into Thailand seamless and efficient. This service helps to minimise waiting time so you can begin your journey feeling relaxed.

After completing immigration and customs formalities, your representative will escort you to the baggage claim area and then on to the arrivals hall. Here you will meet your private driver who will take you by air-conditioned vehicle into the city. The journey to your hotel takes around 45 minutes depending on traffic, and along the way you will have your first impressions of Bangkok’s scale, energy, and modern skyline.

Bangkok is a city of contrasts, where towering glass buildings and rooftop bars stand alongside centuries-old temples and traditional markets. The Chao Phraya River flows through its heart, giving the capital its title as the Venice of the East. The city is known for its vibrant street life, colourful tuk-tuks, and an ever-growing culinary scene that ranges from world-class fine dining to the humblest roadside stalls.

After check in at your riverside hotel, the remainder of the day is at leisure. You may wish to rest after your flight, explore the neighbourhood near your accommodation, or enjoy the hotel’s facilities such as the riverside pool or spa. For those with energy, a short evening stroll along the river or a first taste of Thai cuisine nearby offers a gentle introduction to the city.

  • Pick up this morning is at 8:00am for a guided exploration of Bangkok’s most important cultural landmarks. Begin at Wat Pho, the city’s oldest temple, where the day starts with the monks’ early morning chanting, a deeply atmospheric experience. Here you will also encounter the vast reclining Buddha, measuring 46 metres long and 15 metres high, one of the most iconic images of Thailand. Continue to the Lak Muang City Pillar, which marks the foundation of Bangkok, before entering the Grand Palace complex, the residence of Thai kings from 1782 to 1925. Within the grounds lies Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand.

As you walk through courtyards and ornate halls, your guide will explain the rich symbolism and history of the palace and its temples. The architecture, gilded statues, and intricate murals offer a vivid picture of Thailand’s spiritual and political heritage. Please remember the Grand Palace enforces a strict dress code, requiring modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees, with no shorts, sleeveless tops, or torn clothing permitted.

After a return to your hotel and some time at leisure, your evening program begins with pick up at approximately 5:30pm, depending on your hotel location. This is when you set out on a culinary adventure in Bangkok’s famous Chinatown, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city and home to a thriving food culture.

Start the evening with a stop at a small riverside bar to enjoy a drink as the sun sets over the Chao Phraya River. Afterwards, take a tuk tuk into the narrow lanes and buzzing markets of Chinatown, following your guide through a maze of stalls and restaurants. Sample an array of dishes such as steamed rice cakes, seafood dumplings, noodles, and refreshing shaved ice desserts. Each stop reveals something new, from family-run recipes passed down through generations to unique flavours influenced by Chinese-Thai heritage.

Throughout the evening, your guide will share the stories behind the food and the history of the area, making this not only a tasting tour but also an exploration of Bangkok’s living culture. The night concludes with a final cocktail at a hidden bar, raising a glass to a day filled with history, flavour, and discovery in Thailand’s capital.

  • This morning after breakfast you will depart Bangkok with your guide for the drive north to Ayutthaya, located about 80 kilometres from the capital. Once the thriving seat of the Siamese kingdom, Ayutthaya is today a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with atmospheric ruins and monuments. As you walk through the remains of this once-great city, your guide will share stories of its golden age before its fall to Burmese forces in the 18th century. Among the highlights are Wat Phra Mahathat, where the famous Buddha head rests entwined within the roots of a banyan tree, and Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the former royal temple known for its elegant bell-shaped stupas. You will also visit Wat Lokayasutharam, home to a massive reclining Buddha statue that symbolises the city’s enduring spirit.

Continue by road to Khao Yai, one of Thailand’s most celebrated national parks, with a stop en route at PB Valley Estate. This award-winning vineyard is the largest in the region and has been instrumental in establishing Khao Yai as a wine-producing area. During the guided tour you will learn about the grape varieties cultivated here, from Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon to Chenin Blanc and Colombard. The process of pruning and harvesting, timed to Thailand’s cool season, offers insight into how wine has found a place in this tropical landscape. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious Thai set menu lunch paired with the peaceful views of the vineyards.

In the early afternoon the drive continues through the countryside until you reach Khao Yai and your resort, where you will have time to check in and unwind. Nestled against forested hills, the property provides an inviting space to relax after the day’s travels, whether by the pool or on your private balcony.

Later in the afternoon, set out with a local guide to a nearby cave to witness one of nature’s most striking spectacles. As dusk falls, millions of bats emerge from the cave in swirling clouds, heading into the night sky in search of food. The sight is mesmerising, and your guide will help you understand the role these nocturnal creatures play in the park’s ecosystem.

Return to your hotel in the early evening to enjoy a restful night surrounded by the natural beauty of Khao Yai.

  • After breakfast you will set out with your guide for a full day exploring the heart of Khao Yai National Park, one of Thailand’s oldest and most diverse natural reserves. Covering more than 2,000 square kilometres, the park is home to dense jungle, open grasslands, and dramatic mountain landscapes. It also shelters Thailand’s largest population of wild elephants, estimated at around 200 individuals, as well as hornbills, gibbons, and many other species.

Begin the day walking along narrow forest trails that follow the paths of elephants and other wildlife. The scenery changes constantly, from bamboo thickets to open meadows and cool rivers. Depending on the season you may see trees in bloom, orchids clinging to branches, or colourful butterflies hovering above the undergrowth. At one of the park’s viewpoints, perched at 1,270 metres, take in sweeping vistas across the hills and valleys of Khao Yai.

Enjoy a picnic or simple Thai lunch near a waterfall, the sound of rushing water providing a refreshing backdrop. Continue trekking during the afternoon, with opportunities to spot macaques swinging in the canopy, hornbills flying overhead, and perhaps even wild deer grazing in clearings. The experience is not only visual but also auditory, as the calls of birds, monkeys, and insects fill the air.

In the evening, return to the park with your guide for a night safari. Equipped with spotlights, venture into the forest to search for nocturnal animals. This is the time when elusive wild cats such as civets and leopards may be active. Other possible sightings include porcupines, owls, and forest gibbons. Moving slowly through the park in the dark brings a sense of mystery and a different perspective on the ecosystem you explored by day.

Return to your resort in the early evening to relax and reflect on a day that brought you close to the natural richness of Khao Yai.

  • After breakfast depart Khao Yai with your guide and driver for the overland journey to Sukhothai, a distance of roughly 400 kilometres that takes around 6 hours in total. The route carries you north through fertile plains and rural towns, with plenty of opportunity to see life in central Thailand unfold beyond the major cities. Today combines travel with visits to historic sites that highlight the region’s cultural significance.

After about 3.5 hours of driving you will reach Nakhon Sawan, a provincial centre located at the point where four rivers meet to form the Chao Phraya. Here you will pause to visit Wat Krieng Krai, a local temple that reflects the everyday spirituality of Thai communities and provides insight into the importance of Buddhism in daily life.

From Nakhon Sawan it is about 2 hours further north to Kamphaeng Phet, another UNESCO World Heritage site that, together with Sukhothai, preserves the remains of an early Thai kingdom. The Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park features atmospheric 14th-century ruins, from laterite walls and weathered chedis to ancient Buddha statues shaded by tall trees. You will have time to wander through the site and absorb the sense of history before enjoying a simple Thai lunch nearby.

Following lunch the final drive to Sukhothai takes around 45 minutes. On arrival in the late afternoon, check in at your resort surrounded by rice fields and countryside. The remainder of the day is at leisure to rest after the journey and prepare for tomorrow’s deeper exploration of Thailand’s first capital.

  • This morning begins with an exploration of Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the cradle of Thai civilisation. Travelling by bicycle allows you to move easily among the ruins scattered across a wide area, passing moats, ancient city walls, and ponds filled with lotus flowers. Your guide will lead you to the most significant temples, including Wat Mahathat and Wat Si Chum, explaining how the art and architecture here reflect Khmer, Mon, Sinhalese, and early Thai influences. The morning ride offers excellent opportunities for photography as sunlight filters through the ancient stone structures.

Return to your resort late morning to freshen up before checking out. The journey to Chiang Mai is by private minivan and takes around 5 to 6 hours, covering approximately 300 kilometres. Along the way you will stop for a local Thai lunch and visit another UNESCO-listed site, Si Satchanalai Historical Park. Once a twin city of Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai preserves impressive ruins set in a peaceful, less-visited environment. Stroll among ancient temples, large seated Buddha images, and laterite walls that evoke the atmosphere of a medieval Thai capital.

Continuing north, the route passes through rural scenery and small provincial towns before arriving in Lampang. This city is known for its preserved wooden houses, Burmese-style temples, and traditional use of horse-drawn carriages, still found on its quieter streets. A stop here provides a glimpse of northern Thailand’s cultural diversity before completing the final leg of the journey.

Arrive in Chiang Mai by late afternoon and transfer to your accommodation. Nestled within the old city walls, your hotel provides an elegant base from which to explore this historic northern capital. After check-in, the evening is free for you to rest or take a short walk through the nearby lanes lined with temples, cafes, and small shops.

  • After breakfast, take the morning at leisure to enjoy your final hours in Chiang Mai. Depending on your flight time, you may wish to take a gentle stroll through the old city, where centuries-old temples sit alongside markets and coffee shops, or simply relax at your hotel. The slower pace of Chiang Mai is a fitting contrast to Bangkok’s bustle and a memorable way to end your journey through Thailand.

Your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel reception at the agreed time for your private transfer to Chiang Mai Airport. The drive takes around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic, passing through the city’s tree-lined streets and suburban neighbourhoods. Assistance is provided with your luggage on arrival at the terminal.

At the airport your guide will see you off and ensure you are checked in for your onward or international flight. This marks the conclusion of your 7-day Quintessential Thailand tour, filled with culture, history, food, and nature. We wish you safe travels and hope the experiences of this trip will stay with you long after you leave Thailand.
