Welcome to Cambodia. Upon arriving in Siem Reap, please ensure you have secured your Cambodian visa if not already arranged in advance. After clearing immigration and customs, make your way to the arrival area, where you’ll be met by your private driver. While no guide is included at this stage, your driver will assist with your luggage and transfer you directly to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to rest, adjust to the local time zone, or begin exploring the town at your own pace.

Your day begins early with a 5:00am departure from the hotel for a sunrise visit to Angkor Wat, the most iconic and expansive temple complex in Cambodia. Built as a funerary temple for King Suryavarman II (r. 1112–1152), Angkor Wat remains one of the world’s most impressive religious structures. Entering from the quieter eastern gate, you’ll explore the temple in the soft morning light, well before the main crowds arrive. Admire its vast scale, finely detailed bas reliefs, and remarkable symmetry before returning to your hotel for a late breakfast.
Later in the morning, continue with a full-day exploration of the greater Angkor Archaeological Park. Begin at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, the former royal city and final capital of the Khmer Empire. Highlights include the enigmatic faces of Bayon, the elevated Baphuon temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, and the intricate carvings of the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Also visit Preah Khan, a sprawling monastic complex rich in carvings and corridors.
In the late afternoon, explore Ta Prohm, the temple famously left partially engulfed by jungle. Here, massive tree roots wrap around ancient stonework in a surreal and powerful display of nature’s reclaiming force. As the light softens and most visitors depart, the atmosphere becomes especially captivating. End your day with sunset views at Pre Rup temple before returning to your hotel.
Please note that when visiting temples and religious sites in Cambodia, modest dress is required. Visitors must wear long trousers or skirts that cover the knees and tops that cover the shoulders. Revealing clothing such as shorts, tank tops, or mini-skirts are not permitted.

Today begins with an immersive visit to Kampong Khleang, a stilted village on the northern edge of Tonle Sap Lake, located about 45km from Siem Reap. Home to families who live in towering wooden houses perched above seasonal floodwaters, the village offers a genuine glimpse into rural Cambodian life. During the wet season, homes appear to float above the water; in the dry season, they rise high above the plains.
Depart Siem Reap at 10:00am for the hour-long drive, stopping en route at Phsar Thnal Chek, a vibrant local market frequented by villagers. Upon arrival in Kampong Khleang, visit a family home for a hands-on cooking experience. Learn about Khmer ingredients and methods as you help prepare lunch, then enjoy the freshly made dishes on the family’s terrace, with views of the village’s unique architecture and daily activity.
In the afternoon, board a traditional wooden boat for a cruise along the waterways and into Tonle Sap Lake. Float past homes, schools, and shops built on rafts, and observe the rhythms of life that follow the movement of the lake. As the sun lowers, enjoy light refreshments and a local beer or soft drink while taking in the scenery. Return to Siem Reap in the late afternoon for some time to relax.
Please note that due to current regulations, visitors are not permitted to assist with fishing or travel in the same boats as the local fishermen.
In the evening, you’ll be collected from your hotel at 7:30pm by remork (Cambodian tuk tuk) and transferred to the Phare Circus. Starting at 8:00pm, this high-energy performance showcases the talents of young Cambodian artists trained through Phare Ponleu Selpak, a non-profit organisation founded in 1994 by former refugees. Their unique shows combine theatre, acrobatics, dance, and music to tell powerful stories rooted in Cambodian life and mythology. Performances vary but always reflect the creativity and resilience of a new generation of Cambodian performers.

This morning, your driver will collect you from your hotel to begin the journey east to Kampong Thom, a province nestled between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. The drive takes approximately two hours, passing through rice paddies, small market towns, and stretches of forested countryside. This region sees fewer visitors than the more frequented parts of Cambodia, making it an ideal place to experience the slower rhythms of rural life.
By early afternoon, you’ll arrive at Sambor Prei Kuk, one of Cambodia’s most important pre-Angkorian archaeological sites, and the location of your village homestay. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your local host and assisted with settling in. The accommodation is simple yet clean and comfortable, offering an authentic and respectful experience of Cambodian village life.
The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take a gentle stroll through the village, watch farmers tending their fields, or simply sit and absorb the quiet of your surroundings. This is a valuable opportunity to observe and engage with daily life in the Cambodian countryside, where families still live according to seasonal rhythms and traditions passed down through generations.
In the evening, enjoy a home-cooked Khmer dinner prepared by your host. Though your hosts may not speak English fluently and may be reserved, their hospitality will be evident in their warm smiles and thoughtful gestures. As night falls, settle in for a peaceful rest, surrounded by the sounds of rural Cambodia.
-
After breakfast with your host family, begin your morning with a guided exploration of the ancient ruins of Sambor Prei Kuk, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest temple complexes in Southeast Asia. Dating back to the 7th century, Sambor Prei Kuk served as the capital of the Chenla Kingdom and predates the more famous temples of Angkor by several centuries. Start your visit on foot, wandering through the forested setting to discover the three main clusters of temples: Prasat Sambor, Prasat Tor, and Prasat Yeah Puon. Many of the structures are made from brick and feature delicate carvings, now partly embraced by tree roots and vines.
Continue your journey by bicycle, riding along shaded paths and dirt trails to some of the lesser-known, outlying temples scattered throughout the forest. This quiet and atmospheric setting, free from large crowds, offers a more intimate experience of Cambodia’s early religious architecture.
Return to your homestay late morning, where a traditional Khmer lunch will be served. After enjoying your meal, bid farewell to your hosts and begin your transfer to Phnom Penh. A remork (local-style tuk tuk) will take you to the town of Kampong Thom, where you’ll meet your private minivan and driver.
The journey to Phnom Penh takes approximately three hours, passing through rural landscapes and small communities. Upon arrival in the capital, you’ll be dropped at your hotel with time to settle in and relax after a full day of cultural discovery and travel.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s dynamic capital, offers a compelling mix of past and present. Far from being just another metropolis, it reflects the atmosphere of old Asia: tree-lined boulevards, crumbling French architecture, aromatic street food on every corner, vibrant local markets, and monks in saffron robes moving quietly through the city. Though its recent history is marked by conflict, Phnom Penh today is filled with energy, resilience, and renewal.
This morning, meet your guide and driver to begin a deeply moving exploration of Cambodia’s modern history. Your first stop is Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school that became the notorious S-21 prison under the Khmer Rouge regime. The museum’s exhibits and preserved rooms offer a sobering insight into the country’s darkest period. Afterwards, travel just outside the city to Choeng Ek, one of the many Killing Fields where thousands of victims were executed during the Khmer Rouge era. While these visits can be emotionally difficult, they are essential to understanding the Cambodian people’s enduring strength.
This afternoon, continue your exploration of the city’s cultural and architectural highlights. Begin with a visit to Wat Phnom, the city’s oldest religious structure, dating to the 14th century. This small hilltop temple offers a peaceful setting and views over the city. Then move on to the Royal Palace, a fine example of classical Khmer architecture built in 1866 during the reign of King Norodom. Within the palace complex, visit the Silver Pagoda, named for its floor made from more than 5,000 silver tiles. Though many treasures were lost during the Khmer Rouge era, several impressive statues and objects remain on display, offering a glimpse of Cambodia’s royal and religious past.
Your local guide today is a resident of the Isanborei area, born and raised in one of the villages surrounding Sambor Prei Kuk. Trained through a rural development initiative, they may not speak English as fluently as guides in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, but they are knowledgeable, warm, and experienced. Their insights into both local life and the region’s history add a personal and meaningful layer to your visit.
End the day at the National Museum, home to an outstanding collection of Khmer sculpture and artefacts spanning centuries of Cambodian history. Set in a graceful red sandstone building with a tranquil courtyard, the museum is an excellent place to reflect on the cultural richness that has endured through Cambodia’s many eras.
After the tour, return to your hotel. The evening is at leisure for you to relax or enjoy Phnom Penh at your own pace.
Please note that modest clothing is required when visiting religious and royal sites in Cambodia. Please wear trousers or skirts that cover the knees, and tops that cover the shoulders. Revealing attire such as shorts, tank tops, and mini-skirts is not permitted.

This morning, set out by private vehicle for a day trip to Oudong, the former royal capital of Cambodia, located approximately 39km northwest of Phnom Penh. The journey takes about an hour, following scenic rural back roads lined with rice paddies, palm trees, and traditional stilt houses. Along the way, catch glimpses of everyday life in the Cambodian countryside - farmers working in the fields, children cycling to school, and monks collecting alms near small village pagodas.
Your first stop is a local family home where traditional palm sugar is still produced by hand. Learn about this time-honoured process, from tapping the sugar palm to boiling the sap into thick, caramel-like cakes. This quiet, hands-on visit provides an opportunity to better understand how rural communities sustain themselves through seasonal work and craft production.
Continue onward to Oudong Hill, which served as the country’s royal capital from the early 17th century until the late 19th century. The hill is topped with numerous stupas that hold the ashes of past kings and members of the royal family, and the views from the summit stretch far across the plains. A short but steady climb to the top is rewarded with a peaceful atmosphere, panoramic views, and a sense of the site’s historical significance.
Also located on the hillside is the Vipassana Dhura Buddhist Meditation Center, a serene complex dedicated to the practice and teaching of insight meditation. Explore the centre’s richly decorated halls, where brightly painted murals tell stories from the Ramayana, and see notable relics such as a jade Buddha and a preserved monk displayed in reverence.
After your visit, return to Phnom Penh in the afternoon. The remainder of the day is at leisure for rest or independent exploration.

Enjoy the morning at your own pace, with free time to relax at the hotel, explore a nearby café, or pick up any last-minute souvenirs. Depending on your flight schedule, your driver will arrive at the designated time to transfer you comfortably to the airport. As your journey through Cambodia comes to a close, take a moment to reflect on the experiences, encounters, and landscapes that have made your visit memorable. Safe travels and thank you for visiting.
