-
Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be warmly welcomed by our local representative, who will be waiting to greet you just outside the arrivals hall. From there, you’ll be escorted by private vehicle through the bustling streets of Nepal’s capital to your hotel, where check-in assistance will be provided to ensure a smooth and comfortable start to your journey. After settling in, your representative will provide a detailed briefing about your itinerary, including important travel information, timings, and practical tips. All necessary travel documents will be handed over, and any remaining questions will be answered, giving you peace of mind for the days ahead. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax, recover from your flight, and begin absorbing the sights and sounds of Kathmandu.
-
Begin your day with a short drive of approximately 5km (about 20 minutes) to Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s most revered Hindu site, located on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River. Here, you’ll witness a moving display of spiritual devotion - pilgrims performing rituals, cremation ceremonies on the ghats, and priests offering prayers at the temple complex.
From there, continue 4km (about 15 minutes) to Bouddhanath Stupa, one of the world’s largest and most sacred Buddhist stupas. Join the steady stream of monks and locals walking clockwise around the dome, spinning prayer wheels and soaking in the peaceful ambiance beneath strings of vibrant prayer flags.
After lunch, drive around 15km (approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic) to Bhaktapur, one of the Kathmandu Valley’s three ancient cities. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a living museum of medieval Newari culture, known for its striking architecture, cobbled streets, and artisan traditions. Wander through Bhaktapur Durbar Square, visit the 55-Window Palace, and marvel at Nyatapola Temple - Nepal’s tallest pagoda. Stroll through Pottery Square to see artisans at work before returning to Kathmandu in the late afternoon.
This day offers a deep insight into the rich religious and cultural landscape of the Kathmandu Valley.
-
After breakfast, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your short domestic flight to Pokhara, which takes approximately 25 minutes. The journey itself is a scenic highlight - on a clear day, you’ll be treated to stunning aerial views of the snow-capped Himalayas, the meandering Trisuli River, and lush green hills dotted with remote villages. This flight offers a memorable transition from the urban bustle of Kathmandu to the relaxed, natural beauty of Pokhara.
Upon arrival at Pokhara Airport, you’ll be met and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel near Phewa Lake, a short 10-15 minute drive (around 5km). Check in and take time to settle in, enjoying the fresh mountain air and peaceful lakeside setting. Pokhara’s slower pace and scenic backdrop make it an ideal destination to unwind.
In the afternoon, begin exploring some of the city’s natural and cultural landmarks. First, head to Devi’s Fall (known locally as Patale Chhango), where water from the lake crashes into a narrow gorge before disappearing underground. The cascade is especially dramatic during the monsoon season but is a fascinating geological site year-round. Just across the road, descend into Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, one of the longest caves in Nepal and home to a sacred Shiva lingam. The cave’s cool, damp corridors eventually reveal a natural window looking out at the base of Devi’s Fall - a striking contrast to the roar of water above.
Next, return to the serene shores of Phewa Lake for a boat ride in a traditional wooden paddle boat. Glide across the calm surface while taking in panoramic views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain) and the Annapurna range reflected in the water. You may choose to stop at Tal Barahi Temple, located on a small island in the middle of the lake, which adds a peaceful spiritual touch to the experience.
As evening approaches, enjoy a walk along Pokhara’s Lakeside promenade, a lively strip lined with cafés, art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to browse for souvenirs, enjoy a drink overlooking the water, or simply soak in the laid-back ambiance as the sun sets over the lake and surrounding hills. Return to your hotel for a restful night, refreshed by the beauty and charm of Pokhara.

After breakfast in Pokhara, begin your overland journey into the dramatic landscapes of the Lower Mustang region with a scenic drive to Kalopani. The route covers approximately 120km and takes around 6 to 7 hours, depending on road and weather conditions. The drive begins with a gentle ascent through the verdant hills of the Annapurna foothills before following the course of the Kali Gandaki River, one of the major river systems in Nepal and home to the world’s deepest gorge, nestled between two towering 8,000-metre peaks - Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri.
As you leave behind the lush green valleys, the scenery begins to shift - pine forests give way to high-altitude scrubland and dramatic arid ridges that characterise the Mustang region. En route, you’ll pass through a series of picturesque villages, such as Tatopani (famous for its hot springs), Ghasa, and Lete, where you can pause for rest stops and brief exploration.
Upon arrival in Kalopani, situated at an altitude of approximately 2,530 metres, check into your local lodge or guesthouse and enjoy some time to rest and adjust to the mountain environment. This charming Thakali village is known for its traditional architecture, cobblestone streets, and friendly residents. You may wish to take a stroll through the village, visiting small family-run monasteries, mani walls adorned with prayer stones, and fluttering prayer flags that lend a distinctly spiritual feel to the surroundings.
As the sun begins to lower in the sky, make your way to a nearby ridge or open vantage point for sunset views. The golden light of late afternoon casts a spectacular glow on the surrounding Himalayan giants, with Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, and Annapurna I turning rose and amber. The stillness of the landscape at dusk, combined with the immense mountain backdrop, creates a serene and unforgettable moment. Return to your lodge for a warm meal and a restful night in the crisp mountain air, ready for the next leg of your Mustang journey.
-
Start your day with a peaceful excursion to Titi Lake, located about 8km (roughly 30 minutes by vehicle) from Kalopani. Nestled in a quiet valley surrounded by pine forests, this freshwater lake offers a tranquil setting ideal for birdwatching and gentle walks. Depending on the season, you may spot migratory waterfowl and other native bird species along the lake’s edge. The stillness of the lake and the surrounding forested hills make for a reflective start to the day.
From Titi Lake, begin your journey north towards Jomsom, covering approximately 50km over 3 to 4 hours of scenic driving. The road ascends gradually along the Kali Gandaki River, with views shifting from alpine greenery to the arid, wind-carved landscapes of the trans-Himalayan zone. The changing terrain offers dramatic contrasts - snow-draped peaks on one side and stark, desert-like ridges on the other.
En route, stop at Thini Village, considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited Thakali settlements in the Mustang region. Here, you can stroll through traditional stone houses, learn about local customs, and perhaps visit a small monastery or interact with villagers to get a sense of Thakali heritage.
From Thini, take a short hike of around 45 minutes to Dhumba Lake, a sacred turquoise-hued body of water nestled beneath imposing cliffs and snowy summits. Revered by both Buddhist and Hindu communities, the lake is an important pilgrimage site. The walk offers sweeping views of the valley, and the lake itself - calm, clear, and ringed with prayer flags - is a place of quiet reverence and natural beauty.
After this enriching experience, continue your drive for about an hour to Kagbeni, situated at an altitude of around 2,800 metres. Located at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Jhong Rivers, Kagbeni is one of the last settlements before Upper Mustang. Its windswept alleys, ancient mud-brick buildings, and fortified monastery give it a distinctly medieval atmosphere. Wander through its narrow lanes, visit the red-walled Kag Chode Thupten Samphel Ling Monastery, and soak up the views of the Mustang Valley and surrounding peaks before settling into your guesthouse for the night.
-
Start your day early with a drive from Kagbeni to Muktinath Temple, covering approximately 15km over a scenic 1.5-hour uphill journey. As you ascend to nearly 3,800 metres, the arid landscapes of the Mustang region unfold dramatically against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks. Muktinath is one of Nepal’s most revered pilgrimage destinations, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. Upon arrival, take time to explore the peaceful temple complex - home to the famous 108 water spouts fed by glacial springs and a continuously burning natural flame that symbolises spiritual liberation. Pilgrims from across the subcontinent visit to bathe under the spouts and offer prayers, creating a deeply moving spiritual atmosphere.
Afterward, begin your descent to the nearby medieval village of Jharkot, located just 3km from Muktinath (about 20 minutes by vehicle or 45 minutes on foot). Set atop a ridge with panoramic views of the Kali Gandaki Valley, Jharkot offers a step back in time with its traditional mud-brick houses, chortens, and narrow lanes. Visit the 15th-century Sakya Monastery and the Tibetan herbal medicine school to gain insight into local religious and healing practices, and take in the village’s quiet charm surrounded by terraced fields and rugged cliffs.
Continue your journey south with a 2.5-hour drive (approximately 40km) to the delightful village of Marpha, descending through the high-altitude deserts of Mustang into the more sheltered valley of the Kali Gandaki. Marpha is famed for its pristine whitewashed buildings, cobbled alleyways, and peaceful setting nestled against dramatic cliffs. Known as Nepal’s “apple capital,” Marpha is home to thriving orchards and distilleries producing cider and the region’s signature apple brandy.
Spend the afternoon wandering through the village, visiting the monastery perched above the town, or sampling local apple products. The calm, clean streets and peaceful mountain setting offer a perfect place to unwind and reflect on the day’s spiritual and cultural discoveries. As evening falls, enjoy a relaxed dinner and the warm hospitality of your lodge, surrounded by the quiet rhythm of village life.
-
After breakfast in Marpha, begin your overland journey back to Pokhara, a drive of approximately 160km that takes 6 to 7 hours depending on road conditions. The route traces the path of the Kali Gandaki River, gradually descending from the stark, high-altitude terrain of Mustang to the verdant middle hills of western Nepal. As you travel, take in sweeping views of the river gorge - one of the deepest in the world - alongside terraced farmland, pine-covered slopes, and villages where daily life unfolds at a gentle pace.
En route, you’ll pass through charming settlements such as Jomsom, Ghasa, and Tatopani, each offering glimpses of Thakali culture, mountain traditions, and rustic architecture. Stop briefly along the way to stretch your legs, take photos of the dramatic landscapes, or enjoy a cup of masala tea at a roadside teahouse.
As the road curves and climbs past waterfalls and across suspension bridges, the scenery becomes progressively greener. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Pokhara, where the change in altitude and climate is immediately felt in the gentle air and lakeside breezes.
Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. You might choose to relax on your balcony with views of the lake, take a sunset walk along the bustling Lakeside promenade, browse through handicraft shops, or enjoy a drink at a café with mountain views. After a full day’s travel, Pokhara’s peaceful energy and comfort provide the perfect setting to unwind and reflect on your days in Mustang.
-
After a relaxed breakfast at your hotel in Pokhara, you’ll be transferred to Pokhara Airport for your short domestic flight back to Kathmandu - a journey of approximately 25 minutes covering around 200km. As the aircraft lifts off, enjoy sweeping aerial views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, as well as the rolling hills and river valleys that form Nepal’s varied topography. Weather permitting, this flight offers a final, spectacular glance at the majestic Himalayas from above.
Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel in central Kathmandu. The drive takes about 30 minutes depending on traffic, passing bustling streets, shrines, and colourful neighbourhoods.
After checking in, the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. You might wander through Thamel’s lively streets for last-minute shopping - picking up handicrafts, pashminas, or singing bowls - or simply relax at the hotel with a cup of Nepali tea. If you have a few cultural stops remaining on your list, this is a great opportunity to visit places like the Garden of Dreams or explore more of the old city.
In the evening, join your group for a special farewell dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant. Dine on regional delicacies served in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, accompanied by a cultural performance showcasing local music and classical dance. This festive evening is a chance to reflect on your journey, celebrate the friendships formed, and raise a toast to the unforgettable experiences and landscapes that defined your adventure in Nepal.
